Meet the Volunteer Behind MalinaPatrol
MalinaPatrol was created by a 13-year-old volunteer from North Tyneside as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award. What began as a volunteering project has grown into a community initiative supported by local residents, volunteers, donations and family members who help maintain and develop the project.
The origin story
How MalinaPatrol Started
MalinaPatrol began after noticing a simple problem on local walking routes. Sometimes dog owners wanted to clean up after their dogs but didn't have a bag available when they needed one.
Using a home 3D printer, the first dispensers were produced, a website was created and QR codes were added to make reporting and community feedback easier.
Today the project remains entirely volunteer-led, with dispensers maintained through donations and personal contributions.
Our Vision
MalinaPatrol started with a single idea in North Tyneside. Our goal is to make free dog waste bags available wherever they're needed - helping dog owners do the right thing and creating cleaner public spaces for everyone. Today we're focused on North Tyneside, with ambitions to expand into other communities across the North East in the future.
